Terminally-ill woman beaten near St. Paul lake A woman with terminal breast cancer was hospitalized Friday after she was beaten with baseball bats near Lake Phalen in St. Paul. Tammie was attack just after midnight near Johnson Parkway. "I feel luck to be alive," she said. 'I really feel they were trying to kill me." Tammie's hands are broken in many places and her left middle finger was severed as she tried to fight off her attackers. "There were two bats for sure," Tammie said. "Three Asian kids." To combat terminal breast cancer, Tammie gets chemotherapy on Thursdays. She says the medicine makes her jittery and she gets relief by taking long walks around Lake Phalen. St. Paul Police say the act of violence was random and are looking for people with information to step forward. Laura, Tammie's sister, says she hopes someone will come forward. "For her to spend any more days of her life healing from unnecessary wounds, you know, it's just taking away more days of her life," Laura said. St. Paul Police are investigating the incident.
